Hello! I’ve been on a four month hiatus, which in laymen’s terms means that both my laptop and Michael’s laptop crashed and it’s next to impossible to write a blog from an iPhone without the “auto correct” screwing up every little thing you write. So Michael and I are now the proud owners of a new desk top dell computer, which I am falling in love with more and more everyday. It is a godsend compared to our former laptops.
For those of you who are still wondering, yes I am still pregnant. I am 35 weeks along, which means that Jake’s due date is exactly one month away from today. That’s exciting and scary to think about at the same time. Exciting that we are bringing a child into the world, scary because neither one of us have the slightest clue as to how to parent. In my previous post, I had promised to upload pictures of Jake’s ultrasound and possibly the DVD that goes with it. Sadly, I still can’t. Hopefully my more technically minded husband will be able to accomplish uploading those onto our blog.
You’re probably wondering how I came up with the title of this post. Red-Hot Monogamy: Making Your Marriage Sizzle is a book that one of my co-workers suggests I read. When she told me about the book, my immediate thought was “Whatevs…My marriage already sizzles, I couldn’t make this marriage sizzle any more if I wanted to”…. I was wrong. Plain and simple, I could not have been more wrong. In the beginning of the book, the authors (a married couple by the way), talk about God’s heart. The authors have an incredible ability to balance God’s reverence of the gift of sex and his sense of humor about the subject. Think about some of the crazy positions you’ve been in while engaging in the act of making love: most of the time you’re completely naked, your legs could be wrapped around your partner’s shoulders, or for the more flexible: your toes could be touching the top of your headboard. I’m beginning to think He had a big smile on his face when he thought up the act of making love. I have one question to the more closed minded/ uptight individuals regarding sex: have you read Song of Solomon? To put it bluntly, it’s pretty hot. My point is this: too often people forget who created sex and why. They don’t remember that it is something to thoroughly enjoy. God created this gift as a symbol for of the wedding of Christ and His church. Sex is something that is meant to be enjoyed over and over and over with your spouse.
Another point that hit home with me while reading this book is that it is essential to have Christ as the center of your relationship. For example, praying can be an extremely intimate act to do with your spouse. Why is it intimate you may ask. Praying makes you vulnerable. It’s something that can really open up your heart. And if you’re willing to not only up your heart to God but with your spouse as well, you gain a better understanding of your spouse. If you have a better understanding of your mate, you’ll inevitably have better sex.
I highly recommend reading this book. I think it gives you great insight on how to have a better understanding of your spouse, how sex works on an emotional, spiritual, and physical connection, and how God has designed you to give and receive pleasure from your partner.
